Tanya - The Midwife

We met our midwife on Thursday. Her name is Tanya. We were a little taken back when we met her. When most people think midwife, they think super granola, mother earth sort of look. Tanya was wearing dress pants, nice sweater and heels, and has a thick Russian accent. But looks can be very deceiving, as usual. She’s a real sweat and lovely person and we are very happy to have her as our midwife. She’s been a midwife since 1987, so I didn’t even need to ask how many babies she has birthed. She just moved to Ottawa from Burlington, so that’s how we ended up getting her. And how can you not like an appointment that ends in a hug!

So we now see her every two weeks until week 36, and then every week until the big day. We will be birthing at the Montfort now, which is great as it is 5 minutes away by car. Which means that if I am comfortable, I will be able to labour at home as long as possible. In the delivery room there will be Tanya, her secondary midwife and probably a student as they are a teaching group. We are also allowed to have whom ever else we want in the room, but Marty and I decided that it will be just the two of us. No one else needs to hear my potty mouth, which I am sure is going to be very blue!

Ten weeks to… Holy crap!
